Girl arrested for anti-Bal Thackeray FB post, gets bail

A 21-year-old girl, who posted comments against Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray on social networking website Facebook, was arrested by the police. A friend of the girl was also arrested for liking the anti-Thackeray comment by the police in connection with the case.

A 21-year-old girl, who posted comments against Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray on social networking website Facebook, was arrested by the police. A friend of the girl was also arrested for liking the anti-Thackeray comment by the police in connection with the case.


However, the girl and her friend were later released on bail after they were produced before a local court. The girl hails from the Palghar in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, the arrest of the girl and her friend has evoked sharp reactions from various corners. Press Council of India chairman Justice Markandey Katju wrote to Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan calling the act of the police undemocratic.

Justice Katju said that the arresting the girl was undemocratic and demanded that action be talken against the policemen who arrested her.
