Air France Industries KLM E&M, the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) arm of the European carrier, has chosen India's Ramco Systems as its technology partner for a proposed research and development (R&D) centre in Singapore for pursuing various MRO solutions. The proposed centre aims to encourage MRO solutions at the heart of a fast-growing MRO market (Singapore) and in a "fruitful innovation ecosystem", a release said today. The project is also the outcome of an exchange of experience and best practices between the two partners, it said, adding that Ramco has extensive know-how in the aircraft maintenance sector.

Part of the USD 1-billion Ramco Group, Ramco Systems offers various aviation solutions to its customers. According to industry estimates, aircraft fleet across Asia Pacific is expected to triple to about 13,500 machines by 2031. "By integrating the deep expertise built in addressing the aviation industry with future-ready technologies, we strive to help clients build on technology to solve business problems."

"The MRO Lab is strategically located in Singapore to leverage the aviation industry presence and tap into the best of multi-cultural, multi-lingual and multi-national talent pool the country has to offer," Ramco Systems chief executive officer Virender Aggarwal said. A team of around 10 people will work at this centre on designing and developing innovative, rapid-deployment solutions for strategic areas in the aircraft maintenance industry to benefit AFI KLM E&M customers across the world, the release said. "The team working at the MRO Lab Singapore will be able to benefit from respective expertise of our two groups in support of their work," said James Kornberg, director for engineering and maintenance innovation at AF KLM."This will focus on priority topics identified by their strategic character, from wearable technology to optimisation and big data-linked applications, improving customer relations, and streamlining and monitoring of maintenance data and so on," he added.
