The Justice Department has removed multiple senior national security officials in what appears to be a broad shake-up of leadership within the agency, The Washington Post reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.

At least three top officials from the National Security Division have been transferred to other roles, effectively dismantling the leadership of the unit responsible for coordinating with the FBI and intelligence agencies on national security threats. While the officials were not formally dismissed, they have been reassigned to less prominent positions within the department, the report said. It remains unclear whether they were given a reason for their transfers.

The affected officials now face a choice—accept their new roles or resign from the department.

The removals come amid a broader restructuring within the Justice Department, following the ouster of several senior officials last week. The Post report suggests that the Trump administration’s moves may be aimed at replacing career officials in traditionally nonpartisan positions with individuals more aligned with the president’s agenda. Trump and his allies have repeatedly accused the Justice Department of being used as a political tool against him and have sought to remove officials perceived as obstacles to his policies.
