US President Donald Trump remarked that his efforts to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine might improve his chances of reaching heaven, humorously adding that his current odds are “pretty low.”
“I want to try and get to heaven, if possible," Trump said during an appearance on Fox & Friends. This comes a day after Trump welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and several European leaders to the White House.
“I’m hearing I’m not doing well. I am really at the bottom of the totem pole. But if I can get to heaven, this will be one of the reasons," Trump said.
Trump framed the conflict as a humanitarian crisis, highlighting the significant loss of life. “If I can save 7,000 people a week from being killed, I think that’s a pretty," he said.
“We’re not losing American lives. We’re not losing American soldiers. But you know, we’re losing Russian and Ukrainian, mostly soldiers, some people, as missiles hit wrong spots or get lobbed into cities like Kiev and towns."
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday supported President Trump’s recent remarks, stating that she believed "the president was serious" about his comments on Ukraine and that they reflected genuine conviction.
“I think the president wants to get to heaven, as I hope we all do in this room," said Leavitt, 27, who is known to lead prayer sessions before her own briefings.
