US President Donald Trump claimed in a Truth Social post that the CEOs of General Motors and Ford Motors called him to express gratitude for the tariffs imposed on mid-size and large trucks.
"Mary Barra of General Motors and Bill Ford of Ford Motor Company just called to thank me for putting tariffs on mid-size and large trucks. Their stock has gone through the roof!" Trump wrote.
Trump, discussing his tariffs, stated, “Without these tariffs, it would have been a very hard, long ‘slog’ for truck and car manufacturers in the United States.”
"I told them it’s simple—this is a national security matter. With the tariffs, we have a strong and powerful economy and country. Without them, it would be the exact opposite!"
The president emphasized that the tariffs were essential for national security and credited them with strengthening the US economy and supporting domestic vehicle manufacturers.
