At least three people were killed when a gunman opened fire in the parking lot of a Target store in Austin, Texas. Authorities said the suspect then stole two vehicles during a chaotic attempt to flee, which ended with police deploying a Taser to apprehend him on the opposite side of the city.

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis identified the suspect as a man in his 30s with “a mental health history.” She stated that after fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle, he crashed it and then took another car from a dealership. The suspect was eventually apprehended approximately 32 kilometers away in south Austin and taken into custody.

In response to the incident, social media users expressed outrage and concern. One commented, “Nation needs better surveillance!” Another wrote, “Donald Trump and Greg Abbott should be resigning from their positions on Tuesday. This is unacceptable.” A third remarked, “Trump should send in the National Guard and the military,” while a fourth reacted, “How can this keep happening.”

Initial updates from Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) indicated there were at least four victims. However, authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding their identities or conditions. The motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.
