The US department of war on October 10 clarified that Pakistan won’t be receiving AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) from Washington.
"The Administration would like to emphasize that contrary to false media reports, no part of this referenced contract modification is for deliveries of new Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) to Pakistan," a statement said.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Pakistan was among the list of countries that US approved to receive the AIM-120 missiles.
According to the reports that cited a DoW document, said the updated contract covers military sales to multiple countries, including Pakistan, the UK, Poland, Germany, Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. Work related to this order is scheduled for completion by the end of May 2030.
This led to speculations that US and Pakistan are deepening their engagements following the meetings between American President Donald Trump and Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir.
However, Washington said the latest defence deal is part of “existing contracts” and “does not” include upgrades to any of Pakistan’s capabilities.
Significantly, the clarification comes soon after both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump held a phone conversation, where the former congratulated the American president for brokering peace between Israel and Gaza with a peace plan.
