India's US crude oil imports surge 51 per cent

India has significantly increased its crude oil imports from the United States since President Donald Trump began his second term, signaling a major shift in its energy procurement strategy, according to trade data cited by ANI.

The increase highlights a growing energy partnership between the two countries, with imports rising by over 50% compared to the previous year.

Government sources revealed the extent of this uptick, stating, "From January to June 25, India increased its imports of US average crude supplies by 51 per cent compared to the same period last year. (From .271 mb/d in January to June 2025 as compared to 0.18 mb/d in the same period last year)."

Despite the surge in US imports, Indian officials clarified that the country will continue purchasing crude oil from Russia. This response comes amid US President Donald Trump's claims that New Delhi had stopped Russian imports claims Indian authorities have firmly denied, according to ANI.

The clarification arrives as Washington prepares to implement new sanctions next week targeting countries that maintain energy ties with Moscow, as the conflict in Ukraine continues.
