The use — and misuse — of AI has sparked a lot of concerns among the artist and creator community. Artists have been worried about their voice or face being used for AI-generated content. YouTube is rolling out new tools for creators and artists and giving them more control.
New singing identification tool
According to Amjad Hanif, vice president of creator products, YouTube, the platform has developed a new synthetic-singing identification technology within Content ID that will allow partners to automatically detect and manage AI-generated content on YouTube that simulates their singing voices. “We’re refining this technology with our partners, with a pilot program planned for early next year,” said Hanif in a blog post.

Hanif also revealed that YouTube is developing a new technology that will creators, actors, musicians, and athletes to detect and manage AI-generated content showing their faces on YouTube.
Furthermore, YouTube is employing more effective measures to ensure that other AI tools don’t scrape YouTube content. “We’ll continue to employ measures to ensure that third parties respect these terms, including ongoing investments in the systems that detect and prevent unauthorised access, up to and including blocking access from those who scrape,” said Hanif.
YouTube wants creators/artists to use AI but proceed with caution. “While our primary goal is to empower creativity, we encourage creators to review AI-generated content carefully before publishing it, just as they would do in any other situation,” Hanif noted on the blog post.
Hanif also said that YouTube doesn’t believe AI should replace human creativity. “As AI evolves, we believe it should enhance human creativity, not replace it,” he said. YouTube, as per Hanif, will continue working with its partners to ensure future advancements amplify their voices. “We’ll continue to develop guardrails to address concerns and achieve our common goals,” he said.
