Wipro's Chief Technology Officer Subha Tatavarti resigned on August 12, with effect from
close of business hours of August 16, 2024.
"Subha Tatavarti, Chief Technology Officer, resigned from the services of the company to pursue opportunities outside Wipro," the company said in an exchange filing.
Tatavarti joined Wipro in March 2021 and operated out of San Francisco Bay Area.
This follows a spate of resignations from Wipro in the past couple of quarters. On May 17, Chief Operating Officer Amit Choudhary stepped down to pursue opportunities outside the organisation.
The Bengaluru-based company replaced Choudhary with Sanjeev Jain, who will be based in Bengaluru. On May 10, Wipro's Asia Pacific, India, Middle East, and Africa (APMEA) president Anis Chenchah resigned.
Tatavarti is the third big departure from the Wipro stable after Choudhary and Chenchah's resignation. The three big resignations come after former chief executive officer Thierry Delaporte resigned on April 6. Interestingly, Choudhary, Chenchah, and Delaporte have all worked in the France-headquartered Capgemini.
Both Chencha and Choudhary joined Wipro when Delaporte was the CEO of Wipro.
Jain had joined the IT firm in 2023 as the global head of business operations. He has an experience of over 30 years in leading large, diverse teams and scaling up global operations. Since joining the firm, Jain has been leading Wipro’s talent supply chain, including Wipro’s gig work platform TopGear, as well as talent skilling, global mobility, talent acquisition, and business resilience functions.
In 2023, the company saw another high-profile exit in the form of its Chief Financial Jatin Dalal. He joined Cognizant Technology Solutions soon after, only to be sued by his former employer. However, both parties settled the non-compete lawsuit, filed by Wipro, on July 9.
Accordingly, Cognizant paid $505,087 to Dalal to settle the lawsuit and related arbitration.
In 2023 alone, Wipro lost over 10 of its senior leaders including chief growth officer Stephanie Trautman, chief financial officer Jatin Dalal, chief operations officer Sanjeev Singh, among others.
Analysts are worried about Wipro's continued decline in revenues and market share in the last few years. The sudden resignation of Delaporte in April and the appointment of company veteran Pallia as the new CEO was hailed as a significant step to turnaround its business growth.
Analysts unanimously called this a well-thought-out move as hiring an external CEO could potentially mean a few months of transition and structural changes.
