Currently, all of Apple's flagship iPhones use OLED panels. However, last year, in May 2024, the Cupertino-based tech giant brought this display technology to the iPad Pro for the first time, providing more precise color reproduction and deeper blacks compared to other common display technologies. Reportedly, now according to a new leak, after releasing the latest iPad Air last month in 11-inch and 13-inch guises, Apple is working on its next-gen smaller tablet, the iPad Mini, which could come with a similar OLED display.
Apple’s next iPad Mini could have an OLED display manufactured by Samsung
In a post on Weibo, the Chinese microblogging website tipster Digital Chat Station claimed that Apple is evaluating a small OLED screen for the next-generation iPad. Further, Samsung is tipped to be the supplier of this display panel for the upcoming iPad Mini. However, there is still uncertainty about whether this iPad with an OLED display will offer a higher refresh rate or not.
The tipster also adds that Apple is currently evaluating the OLED panel produced by Samsung, and production could begin in the second half of 2025, with a launch scheduled in 2026. Moreover, the upcoming iPad Mini’s OLED screen will not be as advanced as the one on the latest iPad Pro, which sports a Tandem OLED screen, delivering increased brightness and improved colour reproduction, while reducing power consumption.
Additionally, previous reports have claimed that Apple is preparing to launch new iPad Pro and MacBook Pro models powered by the upcoming M5 chip in 2025. The production of these devices is expected to begin in the second half of the year, with a potential release in the fourth quarter.
