A recent cyberattack has spilled some personal details about Elon Musk’s flying habits and it turns out, the world’s richest man likes to keep things pretty simple in the air.
According to a Bloomberg report, hackers targeted NetJets, a private jet company owned by Berkshire Hathaway, and managed to steal internal documents, including a memo specifically about serving Musk on his flights. Bloomberg got a look at the document, and it gives a rare glimpse into what Musk prefers while flying.
The memo describes Musk as a “nice, laid-back” passenger who isn’t a fan of small talk unless he starts the conversation himself. It also mentions that Musk isn’t too worried about fuel efficiency. What he wants is a flight that’s fast and direct.
Like many travelers, Musk doesn’t like sudden WiFi outages and enjoys taking naps, even on short day trips. According to the memo, dated November 2024, he likes the cabin set at a chilly 65 degrees, prefers dim lighting, and asks that the passenger air vents be turned off because he dislikes the noise they make.
One interesting detail is that the crew is advised not to offer Musk any tech help. The document notes, “Mr. Musk considers himself self-sufficient and does not need help with technology — if he does, he will ask.”
NetJets declined to confirm if the document is real, but people familiar with the company say it’s common practice for their flight attendants to have such “passenger service plans” to make sure each client’s preferences are met.
This isn’t the first time Musk’s flight habits have made headlines. Last year, he banned a social media account that tracked his private jet. While Musk is famously active on social media, he tends to keep his personal routines private — which makes this leak all the more interesting.
NetJets says it’s investigating the breach, which happened after a hacker tricked an employee into handing over their login details.
