Final Fantasy XIV is heading over to the mobile platform, game director and Final Fantasy Online producer Naoki Yoshida announced in a video post on X. The mobile port of Final Fantasy 14, titled ‘Final Fantasy XIV Mobile’, is currently under development by Tencent-owned Lightspeed Studio, which co-developed PUBG Mobile with Krafton. It is officially licensed by Square Enix. Final Fantasy XIV Mobile also got a reveal trailer.
"This is our latest MMORPG title specifically tailored for the mobile platform. Despite these adjustments Lightspeed Studios is working with tremendous enthusiasm and dedication to faithfully recreate the story, duties, battle content and other aspects of the original game,” the Final Fantasy 14 director announced in the video.
Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will first launch in China, and then come to the global market.
“Non-combat features, such as Disciples of the Land and Hand, will also be faithfully implemented and we look forward to growing alongside the passionate FFXIV community," Yoshida said in an official press statement.
At launch, Final Fantasy XIV Mobile will introduce 11 crafting and gathering classes. When not fighting, you could do some chocobo racing, try the Triple Triad card game, customise your home or try on different outfits and glamours for your Final Fantasy XIV Mobile character. There will be festive-themed seasonal events too.
As per LightSpeed Studio, Final Fantasy XIV Mobile “retains lifestyle content such as fishing, Triple Triad, and chocobo racing”. The developers say that they have “painstakingly crafted and optimized” the visual elements including over 600 weather patterns, player character and equipment designs for the mobile port of Final Fantasy XIV.
