Instagram might soon give you more power over what you see on your feed. The platform is testing a new feature that lets users fine-tune the algorithm by adding or removing topics of interest — a small but meaningful step toward making your scrolling experience feel more personal and less random.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the experiment on Threads, saying that users will be able to “tune” what appears in their feeds, starting with Reels. The feature allows people to pick the kinds of topics they want to see more of and remove those they don’t care about. For example, if you’re tired of endless dance clips but love cooking reels, you’ll be able to nudge the algorithm in that direction.

The feature is currently being tested with a limited group of users and will expand to the Explore tab later. Mosseri added that the goal is to give users a clearer sense of control instead of relying entirely on automated recommendations.

In simple terms, this means Instagram is learning to listen. For years, the app’s feed has been largely driven by algorithms predicting what users might like. Now, it’s turning into a two-way street — one where your choices and feedback play a bigger role in shaping what you see.
