Google is turning its AI assistant into an even more powerful tool. As part of its latest Search upgrades, Gemini can now call local businesses on your behalf to check prices, availability, and more — directly from your search results. The feature is available in the US and aims to reduce the friction of everyday tasks like finding a service or checking item stock.

How it works
The calling feature is built into Google Search and requires no separate app or device. When you search for something like “dry cleaners near me” or “printer repair open now,” a new prompt appears: “Have AI check pricing” or “Ask AI to call.” If selected, Gemini will make a call to the listed businesses, gather information like services offered, turnaround time, or prices, and summarise the results for you in a simplified format.

This automation uses the same technology that previously enabled Google Duplex to book haircuts and restaurant reservations. The AI introduces itself as calling from Google, clearly stating the reason for the call. Businesses can respond via voice or keypad, and all responses are interpreted and returned to you in your search results.

Availability and access
The AI calling feature is currently available to users in the United States. It is open to all users, but those subscribed to Google AI Pro or AI Ultra get additional usage limits. Businesses have the ability to opt out or control how the AI interacts with them through their Google Business Profile settings.
