Canon has just introduced a new camera tailored especially for video content creators—the EOS R50 V. This is the first of Canon’s new V-series and it’s designed to keep up with the needs of today’s vloggers, streamers, and short-form video makers. Whether you're livestreaming at home or filming on the go, Canon says this new model is built to make shooting smoother and more flexible.
Price and availability in India
The EOS R50 V kit, which comes with the new RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens, will be available across Canon stores and online starting April 28. The full kit is priced at Rs 79,995, inclusive of all taxes. The lens can also be purchased separately for Rs 33,995.
What it offers
The EOS R50 V drops the traditional viewfinder and opts for a compact, lightweight design to make video shooting easier—especially for long hours. It’s built with creators in mind, featuring a tripod socket on the side for vertical video, a screen that auto-rotates when you flip the camera, and buttons that are placed to make shooting vertically more comfortable.
There’s a dedicated movie mode dial, plus shortcut buttons for livestreaming and colour settings. The camera uses Canon’s RF lens mount and runs on a 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor, which is similar to what’s used in some of Canon’s more professional cinema cameras.
When it comes to video quality, it records in oversampled 4K at 30 frames per second without any crop, and up to 60 fps with cropping. You also get Full HD recording at up to 120 fps for slow motion. If you’re into post-production and colour grading, Canon Log 3 is available too, offering more flexibility with highlights and shadows. There are 14 in-camera colour filters, and a Cinema View mode for those who want to shoot film-style content.
For livestreamers, there’s a one-touch livestream button with four ways to go live: via Canon’s Camera Connect app, the Live Switcher Mobile app, HDMI out, or USB-C. You can even livestream in cropped 4K 60fps, which is useful for concerts or sports coverage. Canon’s skin-smoothing and close-up demo autofocus modes are also available to enhance the viewer experience.
The EOS R50 V also supports professional formats like XF-HEVC S and XF-AVC S, and includes features like false colour and zebra patterns to help with exposure monitoring. Audio has also been given a boost with 3-mic noise reduction and 24-bit 4-channel audio input support—ideal for interviews or shoots with multiple sound sources.
Despite being focused on video, the camera doesn’t skip on stills either. You get fast autofocus with subject detection, up to 15 frames per second continuous shooting, and a max ISO of 32,000 for photos.
About the lens
The RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens is Canon’s first RF lens with built-in power zoom. It’s compact and light, making it easy to balance on gimbals and grips. Zooming can be controlled by the zoom ring or a lever on the camera, and even remotely via your phone.
It also comes with up to 5 stops of optical image stabilization, and up to 7.5 stops when paired with a camera that has in-body stabilisation. Its focal range translates to 22.4mm to 48mm in full-frame terms, making it a good fit for wide-angle shots and close-up face recordings. The lens can focus as close as 0.15m, helpful for product showcases or detailed shots.
