Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) has rolled out its 3.8 update, introducing a fresh mix of global gameplay elements and India-specific content. The update includes a limited-time Steampunk Frontier Mode, new in-game items, exclusive Indian partnerships, and esports initiatives aimed at engaging the local gaming community.
Steampunk Frontier Mode
The headline feature of the 3.8 update is the Steampunk Frontier Mode, set in Aetherholm — a futuristic metropolis with advanced transport systems and high-mobility combat. Available from May 15 to July 14, the mode adds Titan battles, ODM gear with Attack on Titan-style moves, a slide rail system, hot air balloons for vertical mobility, and secret treasure rooms. It also includes a new visual aesthetic with themed weapons and interface.
Anniversary Crate and Gameplay Tweaks
BGMI is also celebrating its journey with an Anniversary Edition Crate that features upgradable skins for UZI, GROZA, UMP45, and M16A4, along with cosmetic items like themed backpacks and lobby visuals. The game now includes solo Arena matches, a new JS9 SMG, a more durable Fila UAZ vehicle, and driver-shooting support for added tactical options.
India-exclusive collaborations
In a first, PepsiCo’s Sting has been introduced as the official energy power-up inside the game. The branding will be visible through in-game items and co-branded Sting x BGMI bottles across India. Another campaign, the Cricket League Exchange Centre, allows fans to vote for their favourite cricket team and earn themed jerseys by completing missions.
Esports initiative via Discovery Island
From May 17 to July 1, players can participate in the Discovery Island event by playing Classic Mode matches to earn Exploration Points. These points contribute to personal rewards as well as a community goal of raising the BMPS 2025 prize pool up to Rs 4 crore. A set of milestones will unlock both individual items and funding boosts for the national esports tournament.
