Apple’s 2025 Mac lineup has drawn a clear line between portability and power. The M4-powered MacBook Air and the new M5-based MacBook Pro share a design language, but their real-world performance and price-to-value balance set them apart in meaningful ways.

The new M5 chip gives the MacBook Pro a clear edge in sustained performance. Design, display, and connectivity
The MacBook Air remains lighter, thinner, and more travel-friendly, with fanless cooling and colour options that appeal to casual users. The MacBook Pro, on the other hand, adds active cooling, a mini-LED XDR display with 120Hz ProMotion, an extra Thunderbolt port, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, superior speakers and microphones, and a notably longer battery life.
Which one suits you better?
If your daily routine involves writing, browsing, streaming, and light productivity, the M4 MacBook Air remains the obvious choice. It offers excellent performance for its class, a lower price point, and more portability making it ideal for students, travellers, and general users.
However, if your work involves video editing, 3D rendering, software development, or any AI-intensive task, the M5 MacBook Pro’s performance headroom and advanced display justify the higher price.
