The sacred portals of Yamunotri Dham in Uttarakhand will open at 11:55 am on April 30, 2025, coinciding with the holy festival of Akshaya Tritiya. The date and time for the ceremonial opening were confirmed by the Yamunotri Temple Committee on the occasion of Yamuna Jayanti.
“The temple gates will be opened at 11:55 am on April 30, as per astrological calculations,” said Sunil Uniyal, Secretary of the Yamunotri Temple Committee. The announcement was made at the Yamuna temple complex in Kharsali village.
As per tradition, the ritual journey will begin earlier that morning. At 8:00 am, a grand palanquin procession carrying the idol of Goddess Yamuna will depart for Yamunotri Dham. This ceremonial yatra will also include the palanquin of her brother, Lord Shani Dev.
Upon arrival at the temple, priests will perform traditional Vedic rituals and prayers before opening the temple doors for devotees. This event also marks the formal beginning of the annual Char Dham Yatra.
The Char Dham temples, which include Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, remain closed for six months during the harsh Himalayan winters. The pilgrimage traditionally starts in the west from Yamunotri, followed by Gangotri, and finally proceeds to Kedarnath and Badrinath in the east.
