The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) led the condemnation of Iran's unprecedented air assault on Israel as leaders from across the world, including from G-7 nations, called for de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
According to the official press release, the MEA stated, "We are seriously concerned at the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran which threatens the peace and security in the region. We call for immediate de-escalation, exercise of restraint, stepping back from violence and return to the path of diplomacy. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation. Our Embassies in the region are in close touch with the Indian community. It is vital that security and stability are maintained in the region.”
Western allies show support
US President Joe Biden also spoke on the situation as US soldiers teamed up to take out Iranian-launched missiles and drones. "Earlier today, Iran and its proxies operating out of Yemen, Syria and Iraq launched an unprecedented air attack against military facilities in Israel. I condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms," Biden said. He also added that he would call a meeting of the G-7 leaders to organise a coordinated diplomatic response to Iran's blatant attack.
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also posted on X showing his clear stand against Iran’s actions. “I condemn in the strongest terms the Iranian regime’s reckless attack against Israel. Iran has once again demonstrated that it is intent on sowing chaos in its own backyard…Alongside our allies, we are urgently working to stabilise the situation and prevent further escalation. No one wants to see more bloodshed,” stated Sunak. He further assured that the UK will continue to stand up for Israel's security as well as all the regional partners, including Jordan and Iraq.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres also expressed his deep concerns regarding world peace following Iran’s attack. “I strongly condemn the serious escalation represented by the large-scale attack launched on Israel by Iran. I call for an immediate cessation of these hostilities. Neither the region nor the world can afford another war,” he said.
Among other world leaders, the airborne strikes against Israel by Iran were strongly criticised by Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau as well. “We stand with Israel. After supporting Hamas' brutal October 7 attack, the Iranian regime's latest actions will further destabilise the region and make lasting peace more difficult," he said. "These attacks demonstrate yet again the Iranian regime's disregard for peace and stability in the region. We support Israel's right to defend itself and its people from these attacks,” he said while commenting on the same.
EU reactions
As per Reuters reports, Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerrbock stood with Israel. She said, “Iran has fired drones and missiles at Israel. We strongly condemn the ongoing attack, which could plunge an entire region into chaos. Iran and its proxies must stop this immediately. Israel offers our full solidarity at this time.”
French Foreign Minister commented on the same saying, “France condemns in the strongest terms the attack launched by Iran against Israel. By deciding on such an unprecedented action, Iran is taking a new step in its destabilizing actions and taking the risk of a military escalation.”
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani they are keeping a close eye on developments in the Middle East and are worried about them. "I am in constant contact with the Italian Embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran. Having consulted the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence, the Government is ready to manage any type of scenario, as he mentioned in his post on X.
