The doubts about Europe's ability to manage its debt hammered global markets on Monday. The European equities sank to the bottom, their lowest in more than a month post the rating agencies lowered their credit outlook on Italy and Greece.

The doubts about Europe's ability to manage its debt have escalated post downgrades by rating agencies. The European equities sank to the bottom, their lowest in more than a month post the rating agencies lowered their credit outlook on Italy and cut Greece's ratings.

 

Standard & Poor's surprised the street by revising its outlook for Italy to "negative" from "stable.
