A special SC/ST court has asked the police in Jodhpur to file a first information report (FIR) against cricketer Hardik Pandya for his tweet on Dr Bheem Rao Ambedkar, the Times of India reported.
The petitioner, advocate DR Meghwal, who is a member of the Rashtriya Bhim Sena in Jalore, Rajasthan, said that the cricketer has hurt the sentiments of the people, with a derogatory tweet on Dr Ambedkar.
Pandya reportedly tweeted on December 26, 2017: "Which Ambedkar ??? The one who drafted a cross law and constitution or the one who spread the disease called reservation in the country."
The tweet is currently not visible on the cricketer's twitter feed.
Meghwal said that not did the tweet hurt the sentiments of the community, but has disregarded the constitution.
"I learnt about Pandya’s comment through social media in January. It appeared quite derogatory for a figure like Ambedkar and was an attempt to spread hatred and create division in the society. By doing so, he has committed a serious crime and hurt the sentiments of my entire community," Meghwal was quoted as saying.
Meghwal averred that the cricketer should be appropriately punished for the "crass act".
