Varun Chakravarthy has been selected for India's tour of Australia. The Kolkata Knight Riders spinner has taken 13 wickets in 11 games in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, including a five-wicket haul.
The news may have been surreal for Varun as he wasn't expecting a maiden call-up for the Indian team. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has lauded the 29-year-old's achievement.
"It (his story) does put a smile on my face. It just tells you dreams do come true. He had given up and restarted, he wanted to become a fast bowler. Through all those things, you must believe in yourself and your dreams come true," Gavaskar said.
Gavaskar also said Varun was rewarded for his fine performance in the IPL.
