The 59th International Advertising Festival will start in Cannes on June 18. The global economy maybe fracturing but ad agencies continue to invest in the Cannes Lions. CNBC-TV18 learns that total entries across the 15 categories are up by 19% and that is the highest ever. Indian entries are also up but by just a bit.

So what are the entries or the work that you should be keeping tabs on? Who will be the big winners: globally and from India this year? CNBC-TV18's Animesh Das meets up with a league of extraordinarily talented people and Cannes winners and veterans to tell you what to look out for.
Also, rumours of ESPN and Star Sports parting ways have been going on for almost as long as the joint venture (JV) has been around. After 16 years that rumour is a reality. This week NewsCorp announced it will buy out partner Walt Disney's 50% stake in ESPN STAR Sports. While NewsCorp did not reveal the deal size it said that it will now own and operate all of the ESS businesses - that includes 7 sports channels, a broadband network, and the website espnstar.com.
ESS Managing Director Manu Sawhney, the first Indian in that role, will quit on September 1. Peter Hutton, the current Senior Vice President of Sports for Fox International Channels will step in.
Earlier in April, STAR India bought the broadcast rights to India cricket for the next six years for nearly Rs 4,000 crore giving us the first indication with its solo bid that this news was in the offing.
So what will be the impact this news on the industry? For all this and more, watch accompanying videos.
