Emraan Hashmi is the unlikeliest of film stars. Till about three years back Emraan was the leading man of a spate of box office hits like Murder and Jannat.
The films had the formula down packed - good music, desi plots and for ever ready to pucker up and kiss Emraan. It was a box office franchise which almost always hit home and put Hashmi in a comfortable rut.
However since 2010 and Once Upon a Time In Mumbai Emraan has gone into reinvention mode.
Last year Dibakar Banerjee's Shanghai got him critical acclaim and a leading role in Oscar wining director Danis Tanovic's next film.
This year also watch out for Emraan in Rajkumar Gupta's Ghanchakkar – an edgy comedy about a con man.
We met up with Emraan Hashmi at Shangri-La's Eros Hotel to talk about his brand of stardom on the A-List today.
