With a major chunk of the world’s population stuck indoors due to the global coronavirus pandemic, video streaming platforms has seen a significant uptake in usage, notably Netflix. The popular video streaming app has surpassed an impressive one billion downloads on Android, according to the Google Play Store.

While the number includes the times, the app comes pre-installed on the phone; it shouldn’t take away from the milestone. The one billion-plus downloads only account for the Android version of the app and not iOS.

For comparison, other streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Hulu have not quite come close to the one billion mark, with the former stuck between 100 to 500 million downloads and the latter between 50 and 100 million downloads. On the other hand, HBO GO and Disney+ are still far off from catching up to Netflix, with the two merely accumulating over five and ten million downloads, respectively.

It is worth noting that Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are more widely available in global markets. Netflix is currently the most expensive video streaming platforms in India. Netflix has multiple plans in India, including a mobile-only plan that starts from Rs 199 per month.
