Punjab Elections 2017: Congress wins, SAD outperforms, AAP loses

The Congress seems headed for a big win in the state of the Punjab, and is likely to take the state back from the Badal-led Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which was supported by the BJP.

The Congress seems headed for a big win in the state of the Punjab, and is likely to take the state back from the Badal-led Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which was supported by the BJP.Data at 9.45 am show the Congress has won or is leading in 61 seats, while the SAD-BJP alliance is in at 28 seats.The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which was expected to have a strong chance at winning the state, has underperformed is seen winning 23 seats.The halfway mark in the state is at 59 out of 119 seats.The Congress win in Punjab comes as a consolation for the grand old party, which seems to have suffered a rout in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, states in which the ruling BJP is likely to sail to a victory.The BJP wave, however, is all set to skip over Punjab, in what will be a repeat of the 2014 elections, when the party underperformed as well.Captain Amarinder Singh is likely to become the Punjab chief minister.
