Former Gujarat Congress president and Porbandar MLA Arjun Modhwadia on Monday resigned from the grand old party amid speculations that he may join the BJP.
In his resignation letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Modhwadia expressed unhappiness over senior party leaders declining the invitation for the Ram Mandir inauguration event in Ayodhya.
"By declining the invitation to witness the pran pratishtha mahotsav [Congress] has hurt the sentiments of the people of India," he said.
Modhwadia claimed that scores of Congress workers were "offended" over the party "insulting Lord Ram" by not joining the consecration ceremony on January 22, 2024.
He also took a dig at Rahul Gandhi, saying that on the day of the event, the former Congress president "attempted to create ruckus in Assam" during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
Modhwadia, who was also a leader of the opposition in Gujarat, had been associated with Congress for the last 40 years.
