Now activate your UAN instantly using Aadhaar: Here’s how the new EPFO process works
UAN activation will only get you started to access your Provident Fund account, but before it, there was employer intervention and waiting hours. EPFO has streamlined it now by making Aadhaar-based UAN activation instant. You can activate it online with your Aadhaar number and registered mobile number without going to your HR or submitting physical documents. This new process enables quicker, hassle-free access to your PF benefits.

A major Aadhaar-linked UAN amendment for EPF subscribers
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has made it easy for employees to activate the Universal Account Number (UAN). The amendment eliminates the erstwhile employer sanction and streamlines the process of activating the UAN. The amendment is particularly useful for new joiners and informal sector workers. Aadhaar-based OTP authentication allows your UAN to get enabled in just a few seconds, and you can take advantage of your PF account and associated services without waiting.

Step 1: Start from the EPFO member portal
Activate UAN via Aadhaar by logging in to the official EPFO Unified Member Portal. On the home page, tap the "Activate UAN" link. You will be asked to enter basic information like name, date of birth, and Aadhaar number. Please make sure the information is exactly the same as on your Aadhaar card to avoid rejection or failure during the authentication process.

Step 2: Aadhaar OTP validation process
Once you enter your Aadhaar number, you will receive an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Enter the OTP in the given field and proceed to authenticate. If your Aadhaar is correctly entered with the OTP and already registered in the UIDAI database, your UAN will get activated within a few seconds. You also get a success SMS and your login credentials.

Step 3: Login and enter KYC details
Once successfully activated, you can log in using your UAN and SMS password. Go to the 'Manage' tab and select 'KYC' to update your Aadhaar and bank account information. Since your Aadhaar is e-verified, employer approval is not required for updating such details. The facility to auto-apply is a big reprieve to employees who were held up with pending employer approvals.

Fresh update cuts red tape and reduces processing time
Earlier, UAN activation employed to be accompanied with employer authentication as well as manual KYC verification, which would delay the access of employees to PF services. The new Aadhaar-based system erases these hurdles by enabling direct activation through mere Aadhaar and mobile number. This will even reduce paperwork for employers and speed up joining process of new employees into EPFO system.

Faster UAN activation makes PF access faster
Instant UAN activation allows workers to start monitoring provident fund contributions immediately, access passbook entries, and make withdrawal or transfer requests. It even minimizes the degree of opacity, as employees no longer need to wait for employer mediation to retrieve PF accounts. With less number of clicks and an active Aadhaar-linked mobile number, even the most non-tech-savvy user can now activate the UAN and own their retirement corpus themselves.

A faster, simpler way to reactivate your UAN
This Aadhaar-allowed process accelerates and simplifies UAN activation, permitting employees to access their Provident Fund accounts more quickly. Whether you're a new recruit or a job jumper, never has it been simpler. Aadhaar-based instant EPFO verification has made the giant leap towards allowing PF services to become more accessible and convenient for tens of millions of Indian workers.
