A fatal road accident on National Highway-48 in Gurugram early Saturday claimed the lives of five people and left one critically injured after a Mahindra Thar lost control and collided with a highway divider. The crash occurred around 4:30 am near Exit 9, close to Jharsa Flyover.

According to officials, the six passengers, three men and three women, had travelled from Uttar Pradesh to Gurugram for work. The SUV, reportedly speeding, skidded off the road and hit the divider. Four passengers died instantly, while two others were rushed to Medanta Hospital, where one succumbed to injuries.

The remaining victim is undergoing treatment in critical condition.

Visuals from the site showed the Thar mangled beyond recognition, with debris scattered over more than 50 meters.

Sector-40 SHO Lalit, interacting with the press, said that an investigation into the incident is underway.

This accident marks yet another tragic incident involving the Mahindra Thar, which has been in the spotlight for rash driving. Last month, a biker was killed in Delhi’s Moti Nagar after being hit by a speeding Thar, with alcohol reportedly found in the vehicle.
