A soldier was killed on Saturday in an encounter with terrorists in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, said officials.
They said that the terrorists opened fire on security officers who were conducting a cordon and search operation in the south Kashmir district's Modergam hamlet.
The Indian Army soldier died after suffering injuries during the firefight, according to the officials.
The operation is underway and further details are awaited, they added.
