RG Kar Medical College and Hospital’s former principal Sandip Ghosh on September 4 moved the Supreme Court against the Calcutta High Court order transferring a financial irregularities case against him to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The Supreme Court will be hearing Ghosh's petition on September 6, according to several media reports. An SC bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Manoj Mishra, and Justice JB Pardiwala will be hearing the case.

The Calcutta High Court had on August 23 ordered the transfer of the probe into alleged financial irregularities at the hospital from a state-constituted SIT to the central agency.

Ghosh, along with three others, has been arrested by the CBI in connection with the case at a time the RG Kar administration is under the scanner over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor on August 9.

The former principal of the government medical college has reportedly claimed that “principles of natural justice” were not applied to his case as the HC did not hear him out before transferring the case. He also claimed that the Calcutta High Court made a comment linking the corruption case to the doctor’s rape and murder.
