Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter, now known as X, on March 11 to announce the first test flight of the Made-in-India Agni 5 missile.
"Proud of our DRDO scientists for Mission Divyastra, the first flight test of indigenously developed Agni-5 missile with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology,"he posted.
The Agni V project will boosting India's nuclear deterrence against China, which is known to have missiles like Dongfeng-41 having ranges between 12,000 and 15,000 km.
This will ensure that a single missile can deploy multiple war heads at different locations. With the test of Mission Divyastra, India has joined the select group of nations who have MIRV capability.
