In a significant development, Pakistan is learnt to have expressed a desire for a meeting with India in a first major step towards de-escalation between the two nuclear-armed states, a report by CNN-News18 said.
The TV channel further said that a first phone call has been made between the DGMOs of the two countries.
The report, citing sources, said that situation has turned ‘bad’ within Pakistan and that has forced Islamabad to engage with New Delhi.
Moreover, communication channels have been established between the two countries for a meeting of representatives, the report said.
The development comes soon after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke to India's foreign minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar, urging both the countries to take steps towards de-escalation. Rubio also spoke with Pakistani army chief Asim Munir to dial down the hostilities with New Delhi.
