Major fire breaks out at ED office building in Mumbai’s Ballard Estate

A major fire broke out in the wee hours of Sunday at the Kaiser-I-Hind building in south Mumbai's Ballard Estate area, which houses the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office, civic officials said.

Fire brigade teams were immediately rushed to the site near the Grand Hotel on Currimbhoy Road. Around 3:30 am, the fire was upgraded to Level-II, and later, at 4:21 am, to Level-III, marking it a major fire incident.

The fire was confined to the fourth floor of the five-storey building, officials confirmed.

A massive firefighting operation is underway, with eight fire engines, six jumbo tankers, one aerial water tower tender, a breathing apparatus van, a rescue van, a quick response vehicle, and an ambulance deployed to the scene.

However, no injuries have been reported so far.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
