The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Election Commission to disclose the names of 65 lakh people whose names have been removed from the voter list in Bihar and has asked the poll body to upload all such names on the EC website along with the reason for deletion.

The Election Commission, on Thursday, said that the details of the deceased voters and those who have been found with multiple voter cards have been shared with political parties. This came shortly after the Supreme Court asked the poll body to share details of 65 lakh deleted named from the voter list in Bihar.

The Election Commission also said that the enumeration form of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) already asks for the Aadhaar number as proof of identity. It added that the list of the deceased voters, at two places and permanently shifted is being shared with political parties since July 20.

"If 22 lakh people have died, why is it not disclosed at the booth level? We do not want citizens' right to be dependent on political parties, the judge said, while hearing the petitions.
