Heavy rains continued to lash many parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh including Hyderabad, on Sunday. Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy held an emergency review with ministers, officials and elected members. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu also held a review meeting and instructed officials to be vigilant and alert in the rain-affected areas, adding that the necessary assistance be provided to the people. Meanwhile, the depression over north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts, which has been causing heavy rainfall over the past two days, moved northwestwards to cross the southern state's coast near Kalingapatnam in the wee hours of Sunday, said a India Meteorological Department official.

HM Amit Shah promises central help: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken with the chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to assess the flood situation in both states, promising comprehensive Central assistance.
Heavy rainfall in Hyderabad: Hyderabad witnessed heavy rains and the continued overnight downpour led to waterlogging in many parts of the city. The Met Centre said moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers accompanied with gusty winds upto 40-50 kmph are very likely for Hyderabad. It also said of low to moderate flash flood risk over Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medchal, Vikarabad and Sangareddy districts. Moderate to heavy rains lashed many parts of Telangana on Saturday, leading to inundation of low-lying areas and disruption of road links between villages in some places.
Red alert issued by IMD: In its weather warning, the Met Centre on Sunday said very heavy to extremely heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal, Mahbubabad, Jangaon districts of Telangana from 8.30 am of Sunday till 8.30 am of September 2. It issued a red warning for this forecast.
Schools closed: Hyderabad Collector in a post on X said , "Due to the forecast of heavy rains in Hyderabad District, all Primary and Secondary Schools, under all managements (Government, Aided, and Private), are hereby declared a holiday on 02-09-2024, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the children."
Train services disrupted: The rainfall in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the train services have been disrupted due to water logging over the tracks at several locations.
Indian Railways on Sunday cancelled over 20 trains and diverted more than 30.
Also, Indian Railways has set up helpline numbers to ensure the safety and convenience of people. The helpline numbers are; Hyderabad-27781500, Warangal-27782751, Kazipet-27782660 and Khamman-27782885. Earlier, the railway cancelled six trains; 12713 Vijayawada -Secunderabad, 12714 Secunderabad - Vijayawada, 17201 Guntur -Secunderabad, 17233 Secunderabad - Sirpur Kaghaznagar, 12706 Secunderabad - Guntur, 12705 Guntur - Secunderabad, per the information shared by South Central Railway on X. Additionally, nine trains were diverted, 20811 Visakhapatnam - Nanded, 12739 Visakhapatnam - Tirupati, 03241 Danapur - Bengaluru, 12642 Nizamuddin - Kanniyakumari, 11019 CST Mumbai - Bhubaneswar, 11020 Bhubaneswar - CST Mumbai, 18519 Visakhapatnam - LTT Mumbai, 12727 Visakhapatnam - Hyderabad,12759 Tambaram - Hyderabad, the post added.
The Met Centre said heavy to very heavy rain is very likely to occur at few places in Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagital, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Vikarabad, Sangareddy districts on Sunday.
Citizens living in low lying areas are advised to be more vigilant and inform the authorities over the phone in case of an emergency or any assistance required, the release said.The CM directed the ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs to stay in their respective areas and take up relief operations.A control room was opened at state Secretariat to monitor heavy rains in the state, an official release said. *With Agency Inputs
