The development came after the Delhi Police and the protesting farmers had a confrontation at Delhi-Haryana borders in Singhu and Tikri since November 27 morning. Farmers are agitated at the anti-agricultural policies of the BJP government, but instead of adopting a positive attitude towards their demands, it was using teargas shells, water cannons and batons on them, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav said on November 27.
The remark comes as farmers, mainly from Punjab and Haryana, head towards the national capital as part of their ''Delhi Chalo'' march to protest the Centre''s new agri-marketing laws. As thousands of protesters gathered at various entry points into the city, police used teargas shells, water cannons and multi-layer barriers to block them.

Farmers pelt stones, break barricades at Delhi-Haryana Singhu border
Protesting farmers at the Delhi-Haryana Singhu border on Friday pelted stones and broke barricades as they clashed with Delhi Police which used tear gas shells to disperse them. Angry farmers, who were denied entry into the national capital for their 'Delhi Chalo' march against the Centre's new farm laws, managed to break the first layer of barricading, at the border.
Plumes of smoke were seen as security personnel used multiple rounds of tear gas to disperse the protesting farmers at the Singhu border.
"The farmers are resorting to stone-pelting. They have been denied permission and legal action will be taken against them if they still enter or attempt to jump over barricades," a police official said. (PTI)

Farmers stage sit-ins, block roads at some places in Uttar Pradesh
Farmers on Friday staged demonstrations at some places in Uttar Pradesh leading to traffic jams on roads, officials said. Protesting against the Centre's new farm laws and the police action on the agitating farmers, the activists of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) blocked the Delhi-Dehradun National Highway at Nawla Kothi in Muzaffarnagar district and also staged sit-ins in Meerut and Baghpat.
Due to heavy deployment of police personnel, however, the situation remained under control as the administrative machinery was already on alert after a call for holding the protests was given by the BKU. State vice president of BKU Harnam Singh Verma led a protest in Naubasta Kala under Chinhat Police Station area of Lucknow on Friday morning.
