Encounter breaks out in J&K's Kulgam a day after Pahalgam attack

An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Tangmarg area of Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, said officials.

Security forces said that a search and cordon operation began after they received information about the presence of ultras in the area. The encounter broke out when the terrorists opened fire on the personnel, they added.

No casualties have been reported in the clash so far and authorities are awaiting further updates.

Earlier on Wednesday, security forces successfully foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in Baramulla district, killing two militants during the operation.

This encounter follows a deadly terrorist attack on Tuesday in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam in Anantnag district, where 28 people, including two foreigners and two locals, were killed.
