Eight people were killed, and about a dozen others were injured when their bus collided with a water tanker on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway on Friday, according to police.
The incident occurred around 2 pm in the Sakrawa area while the bus was traveling from Lucknow to Delhi, said Kannauj Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Anand.
"Eight passengers died in the accident and around a dozen injured passengers are receiving treatment at the Saifai Medical College, near Etawah district," he said.
Those not injured were transferred to another bus to continue their journey.
State Minister for Jal Shakti Swatantra Dev Singh, who happened to be passing by, stopped his convoy to help rescue the injured and ensure their transportation to the hospital.
“Senior police and administrative officials have reached the spot and they have been instructed to provide the best of medical treatment to the injured," Singh told PTI.
“This is a tragic event. We must be more cautious on the roads and follow traffic rules and safety guidelines,” he remarked.
The minister also mentioned that after speaking to the injured passengers, it appeared that the bus driver was drowsy, which may have contributed to the crash.
