An Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) force spokesperson said a "heavy landslide" hit a civil workers' camp along Mana GST road at 5 am amid continuous snowfall.
"ITBP and Army rescue teams swiftly launched rescue operations, evacuating 10 injured workers who are now receiving treatment at the medical facilities of the two forces. "Efforts are on to locate and evacuate the remaining trapped workers, despite extreme weather challenges," the spokesperson said.

Workers from Jharkhand are also among those feared trapped under an avalanche that buried a camp of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district on Friday, an official said.

Badrinath avalanche live updates: Of the 10 rescued, four personnel are reported to be in critical condition, says Indian Army
At around 07:15 am on 28 February 2025, a BRO Labour Camp, located between Mana and Badrinath, was struck by an avalanche, burying 57 workers inside eight containers and one shed. The Indian Army’s swift response teams, comprising more than 100 personnel from the Ibex Brigade, were immediately mobilised, comprising doctors, ambulances, and plant equipment. By 11:50 am, the teams had located five containers and successfully rescued 10 individuals, all alive. Of the 10 rescued, four personnel are reported to be in critical condition.
Search operations are ongoing for the remaining three containers, with the aim of rescuing the trapped individuals.
Heavy snowfall continues in the region, and GREF is working on clearing the road between Joshimath and Mana. Additional medical resources from Joshimath are being mobilised to Mana to assist with the rescue and medical aid.
