Undertrial killed in shootout

Lucknow, Feb 11 (PTI) An undertrial and a criminal were killed and two people were injured in firing which broke out when he was being taken to a court for hearing today. Home department sources here said undertrial Narendra alias Nandu, lodged in Bijnore jail, was being transported in police custody for hearing in a Bulandshahr court when at least five assailants intercepted them at Kotwali police station area and started firing. The undertrial was killed and one of the assailants died in police firing. The others, however, managed to escape. Two onlookers, including a roadways bus driver and a rickshaw puller, were injured, they said. A pistol and several cartridges were recovered from the deceased assailant, the sources added.
