Closing Bell | Sensex ends 410 pts higher, Nifty closes above 24,800; Bajaj Finserv, Tata Steel, Sun Pharma top gainers
Sensex Today| Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities
The Nifty remained confined within the range of the previous session, suggesting that traders are staying on the sidelines awaiting a clear signal. A fall below 24,700 could trigger a market correction, potentially leading to a decline toward the 21-EMA, which is currently positioned around 24,428. Overall, sentiment is likely to remain sideways to bearish as long as the Nifty stays below 25,000. However, if the Nifty reclaims the 25,000 level, the sentiment may turn bullish, and short bets would lose their appeal.
Sensex Today| Sundar Kewat, Technical and Derivatives Analyst, Ashika Institutional Equity
The Nifty opened flat at 24,744 but wasted no time in staging a sharp rally early in the session, hitting a day’s high of 24,946. However, the momentum quickly reversed in the second half, dragging the index to an intraday low of 24,685. The index was caught in a tug-of-war between bulls and bears, ending the day volatile and directionless. On the sectoral front, strength was evident in Realty, Pharma, Auto, Healthcare, and Financial Services. Meanwhile, pressure mounted on Consumer Durables, Private Banks, and Media stocks, weighing on overall sentiment.
Globally, metal stocks managed to extend modest gains after the People’s Bank of China cut interest rates to prop up economic growth. However, optimism was short-lived as U.S. futures slipped on the back of a tech rally cooldown on Wall Street.
In the derivatives space, out of total stocks, 153 advanced while 66 declined. Heavy open interest activity was seen in Dixon, Titagarh, Torrent Pharma, Solar Industries, and HFCL. On the Nifty options front, significant call OI buildup was noted at the 25,000 strike, while 24,700 and 24,000 held the highest open interest on the put side. The Put-Call Ratio (PCR) stands at a cautious 0.64.
Sensex Today| Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
Markets exhibited a broadly positive undertone today; however, overall sentiment remained confined within a narrow range, indicating risk of “sell on rallies” strategy in the near future amid escalating uncertainty around India - US trade negotiations. There is a growing perception that India may not derive the anticipated benefits initially projected during the peak of the tariff war, which has since de-escalated.
FIIs turned net sellers due to the concerns over the recent U.S. credit rating downgrade, tax cut plans in the U.S. that could significantly widen the fiscal deficit, and its effect on the upcoming Fed policy next month. This change in stance hints at an increased probability of emerging risk-averse sentiment in the near term."

Sensex Today| Moody’s: India’s Strong Domestic Economy Shields It from Global Trade Shocks
India is well-positioned to absorb the impact of U.S. tariffs and global trade disruptions, thanks to strong domestic growth drivers and limited reliance on exports, Moody’s Ratings said in a recent note. The agency highlighted government initiatives aimed at boosting private consumption, expanding manufacturing capacity, and increasing infrastructure investment as key buffers against a softening global demand outlook.
Easing inflation also opens the door for potential interest rate cuts, which could further stimulate economic activity. Additionally, ample liquidity in the banking sector is expected to support credit growth. “India is better positioned than many other emerging markets to deal with U.S. tariffs and global trade disruptions,” Moody’s noted, citing the country’s robust internal demand and relatively low exposure to goods trade.
