Nikkei gains 1.2% as US data brightens outlook

Japan's Nikkei average rose 1.2% on Tuesday after global shares resumed their rally on stronger manufacturing data the day before, while oil rose as the outlook for growth increased optimism about demand.

Japan's Nikkei average rose 1.2% on Tuesday after global shares resumed their rally on stronger manufacturing data the day before, while oil rose as the outlook for growth increased optimism about demand.


The Institute for Supply Management said US manufacturing grew for a 17th straight month following news of faster growth in European manufacturing as well.


The benchmark Nikkei was up 121.06 points at 10,342.43.

The broader Topix index gained 1.1% to 908.75.
