Foundation laid for Rs 15.56 cr power cable project

The foundation for a Rs 15.56 crore World Bank aided project to lay underground power cables in coastal areas near here was today laid by Chief Minister V Narayanasamy.

It had been taken up as part of the Coastal Disaster Risk Reduction Project of the Project Implementation Agency (PIA).

A release from the agency said the project was aimed at replacing the low tension overhead power lines in the coastal areas of Ariyankuppam, Mudaliarpet and Uppalam with the underground cable.

This would benefit domestic power consumers and also ensure uninterrupted power supply to street lights, it said.
