The first meeting of the joint panel on the amendments of the controversial Land Acquisition and Resettlement Act, 2015 happened in the capital city on Friday.

The panel, headed by BJP MP S S Ahluwalia, comprises of member of parliaments (MPs) from both the houses, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The committee was formed after a huge uproar against the proposed changes in the legislation.

The panel has to submit its first report on the bill, which has already been passed by Lok Sabha, in the first week of monsoon session of the parliament.

Many parties including Congress and NDA had opposed the proposed bill terming it as anti-farmer and pro-corporate. Meanwhile, the government has repromulgated an ordinance related to the changes in the land bill.
