Confectionery maker Wrigley India today said Deepak Iyer has been appointed as the company's Managing Director with effect from January 3, 2013.

Wrigley, which markets products like Double Mint and Orbit in India, is a subsidiary of US-based Mars Inc.

"This appointment follows the departure of Gautam Sharma, the former Managing Director of Wrigley India who resigned from the company to pursue a new career," the company said in a statement.

Deepak, who will be based in New Delhi and operate out of Wrigley India's headquarters located in the National Capital Region (NCR), would be responsible for developing the business strategy to drive growth across various functions and brands of Wrigley India, it added.

"...We are excited to have Deepak joining Wrigley India. Given his extensive experience and solid track record, I am confident that our India business will achieve new heights under Deepak's leadership," Wrigley Asia Pacific President Michael Yeung said.

Before joining Wrigley, Deepak spent 16 years in PepsiCo where he handled a portfolio ranging from sales and general management functions.
