The ongoing battle between the Orissa government and Kolkata Port Trust has been renewed following the recent stretching of the Port Trust's territorial limits with the shipping ministry's nod, The Times of India reports.

Officials in the Orissa government said the state would contemplate legal action against KoPT. Representatives of KoPT reportedly dubbed the Orissa government's view as "narrow" and said they were ready for a legal battle.

Kanika Sands seems to be the chief matter for the dispute, the report says, quoting unnamed sources. The KoPT has notified Kanika Sands as part of its jurisdiction, these sources said. In 2006, the shipping ministry had decreed Kanika Island as being part of Orissa in 2006.
