The nuclear crisis and the large-scale damage caused by last week's earthquake and tsunami has come as a blow to Japanese consumer durable and electronics companies, reports The Times of India.

Although they insist the near-term impact on their India businesses will be minimal in the long term. However, there is a sense that the overall industry will see a disruption in India and globally if the situation gets any worse, the report says.

According to Alok Bharadwaj, senior VP, Canon India, the Japanese parent has shut down eight of its manufacturing plants in the quake and tsunami affected areas and expects the global supply chain to be impacted by the crisis, the report adds.
