NTPC commissions AP plant; can it lift stock's fortune?

India's largest power generator National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has commissioned a 500 MW unit-3 power plant at its Andhra-based Simhadri Super Thermal Power Project, the company said in a release sent to the stock exchanges. With this, the company's total capacity has risen to 34,194 MW with Simhadri plant contributing 1,500 MW.

India's largest power generator National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has commissioned a 500 MW unit-3 power plant at its Andhra-based Simhadri Super Thermal Power Project, the company said in a release sent to the stock exchanges. With this, the company's total capacity has risen to 34,194 MW with Simhadri plant contributing 1,500 MW.

The latest capacity addition could improve sentiment for the stock, say analysts tracking it.

Shares of the Navratna-status government company has been underperforming the broader market over the last one year
